![]() It is never easy when we fall short of our goals, especially when there are complications which prevent you from doing your best. This was the case with Sandy in Dallas. She played in her 21st ADO National playoff hoping to earn an invitation to the 2013 Winmau Masters in England, the most important event on her yearly schedule. She has earned that invitation 4 of the last 6 years but was simply in too much pain to again qualify in the talented field of darters on hand in Texas. The defeat was made worse by her hometown league's decision to hold the City Championships on the ADO National playoff weekend, it was the third time in a year they chose to conflict with the national playoffs despite being a longtime ADO affiliate. She started well enough winning her bracket going 14-1, and for the most part managed to keep her focus despite her injury. After earning a spot in the final bracket the pain began to take it's toll in the grueling event. She missed way too many doubles and her concentration waned, once it did there was no getting it back. She fell behind early and finished poorly, showing the heart of a champion along the way. Congrats go out to Pam Briggs who will make her second trip to England and Sarah Simoens who earned her first Winmau Masters.
