Though she was still feeling the effects of an injured knee she competed in all the events but ended up struggling throughout the weekend. Saturday started with a Top 4 in Ladies 501 Doubles with her fellow L-style teammate Cindy Hayhurst of Canada who lost to the eventual winners Stacy Bromberg and Marilyn Popp. Next up was Ladies 501 Singles where she lost in the Top 16 to England's Stephanie Luck. She won the first leg and had several chances in the second leg but could not hit the critical double. She teamed with George Alvarado and John Schauman in Mixed Triples but were knocked out in the first round. On Sunday she lost in the Top 32 to Stacy in Ladies Cricket and lost in the third round with another L-Style teammate D.J. Sayre who was also battling an injury after a car accident.
This was the sixth straight year Sandy was on hand for the Las Vegas Open and ADO National Cricket Championships and the first time she was supported by her L-Style sponsors who came over from Japan to root for the Japanese team and their sponsored players.

Despite injuring her knee five days before the event, Sandy hobbled into the dart hall with high hopes of finally winning the ADO Cricket National Championship that has eluded her. Armed with support bandages and KT Tape she gave it her usual gutsy effort but was unable to come out on top against the country's elite female players. She started well winning her bracket and dropping only one leg in the process and won her quarterfinal match 3-0. Then she came up against what many feel is america's best Cricket player and close friend Paula Murphy. Paula was not at the top of her game but won the first two legs before Sandy finally broke through. Leading 2-1, Paula again won to push Sandy to the brink where she responded with her best game of the match closing the gap to 3-2. Then Paula returned the favor throwing perhaps her best game to earn a 4-2 victory. As it turned out it was her toughest match of the playoffs and she went on to claim her 3rd National Championship. The SCUDL built this one day event after hotel issues forced them to postpone their regular January tournament the Foothills Fling. Sandy was on hand to support the league and use the event as a warm up for next week's National Cricket Championships and Las Vegas Open. She won 2 of the 3 events she played in and finished as runner-up in the other winning 13% of the total purse. She started the day reaching the finals of Ladies singles 501 and won the first leg but struggled missing too many doubles and lost to GPDA Ladies teammate Candra McClellan. She teamed with Usual Suspects teammate John Liggett to win Mixed Doubles Cricket and with GPDA Ladies teammate Amy Tucker to earn the victory in Ladies 501 Doubles. The holiday break was made longer by the cancellation of the last event of 2012 so after seven weeks without playing tournaments we were ready to get back at it again. This small event proved to be a great warm-up for the bigger tournaments down the road and Sandy started the year off with a bang winning 6 of the 7 events she entered. She started the event teaming with her husband Chuck and Jeff Turner to earn a Top 4 finish in Mixed Triples 701. Jeff was her mixed doubles partner for the weekend and they swept to wins in 501 and Cricket. Kelly Turner (Jeff's wife) and Sandy also won both Ladies Doubles titles and Sandy earned her first 2 singles titles of year winning Ladies singles 501 and Cricket. She used the off-season to settle on a new dart going forward and won 16% of the total tournament purse. |
