![]() Sandy had a "monster" weekend limping around her hometown tournament, the Foothills Fling, winning over 10 % of the total prize money. She won six times and finished second twice in 9 events, she visited the L-Style Finals board eight times in 2 days. With Gage Alvarado, her youth partner, they lost early in Cricket and finished 2nd in 501. Her and GPDA teammate Amy Tucker won 501 doubles and finished 2nd in cricket. Her mixed partner was Flying Bull Darts teammate Robbie Phillips and they swept both doubles events and picked up Dan Naylor to win again in Mixed Triples. Sandy won both singles over two Chattanooga girls. She beat Sandy Haas in 501 and Lisa Ayers in Cricket to earn her 10th singles title this year. The highlight of the tournament was the great support from her sponsors "L-Style Global" and "Monster Barrels Design" who made substantial donations to the charity event which raises money for a shelter for battered and abused women in our area.
![]() Sandy returned to the DFW Metroplex Open this year which started with Friday's Mixed Doubles 501 with L- Style teammate Ryan Barnette, but after the National playoff earlier she was in no condition to play and they went down in the first round. Still hurting Saturday, she and Marlise Kiel also lost their first round doubles match but rebounded nicely on Sunday winning in Cricket. Ryan and their partner Steve made a 2nd round exit in Mixed Triples losing to the eventual winners. She played best in singles, finishing 2nd to Lisa Ayers in 501 and winning her 8th title of the year in Cricket over Pam Briggs. It was the 60th tournament singles title of her career. She also accomplished a rare feat by winning championships on the same day in two different states as her hometown team, "The Usual Suspects" captured their league record 12th City Cup Championship. Also it was great to see ADO President Chris Helms at the event, he was in good spirits and is coming back nicely after his accident last year. Also wanted to thank the tournament staff for an excellent job running the event on schedule all weekend. ![]() It is never easy when we fall short of our goals, especially when there are complications which prevent you from doing your best. This was the case with Sandy in Dallas. She played in her 21st ADO National playoff hoping to earn an invitation to the 2013 Winmau Masters in England, the most important event on her yearly schedule. She has earned that invitation 4 of the last 6 years but was simply in too much pain to again qualify in the talented field of darters on hand in Texas. The defeat was made worse by her hometown league's decision to hold the City Championships on the ADO National playoff weekend, it was the third time in a year they chose to conflict with the national playoffs despite being a longtime ADO affiliate. She started well enough winning her bracket going 14-1, and for the most part managed to keep her focus despite her injury. After earning a spot in the final bracket the pain began to take it's toll in the grueling event. She missed way too many doubles and her concentration waned, once it did there was no getting it back. She fell behind early and finished poorly, showing the heart of a champion along the way. Congrats go out to Pam Briggs who will make her second trip to England and Sarah Simoens who earned her first Winmau Masters. ![]() Sandy is excited to announce her new partnership with Monster Barrels Design of Japan. Monster has created amazing barrels since 2002 and their product has gained popularity in North America over the past few years. Their creative and intricate designs is what first attracted Sandy to their darts, but they did not offer a model that fit her length and width requirements. We began discussing a signature model barrel design earlier this year and she is so happy to now be a part of Team Monster. We have sent them the plans for the first prototype model and will work with them to perfect the barrel in the months ahead. Hopefully, together we can create the optimum barrel for Sandy's throwing style and one that can be successfully marketed as well. She joins a great team of players from around the world and looks forward to working with this incredible sponsor to promote their high quality products. |
