The event is small with low payouts but nobody seems to mind because they use the profits toward supporting youth darts. This year they will again pay entry fees and travel expenses to send 2 local youth players to both Youth Nationals. Ryan Avellino and Rylee Windham will represent the SCDO in the Winmau Youth National Championship in Ft. Lauderdale, FL in June and also to the ADO Nationals in Charlotte, NC in July.
This event was pulled off by the timeless dedication of some key people in the SCDO and with the help of the QCDA in Charlotte as well. Thanks to everyone who worked so hard to make this event a success. They always draw a good crowd of regional players and this year was no different.
Sandy has yet to fully return to form following 2 knee replacement surgeries but she is making positives strides and progressing nicely. She was unable to find a youth player since her regular partner Gage Alverado is now too old so she skipped the Adult/Youth event. Her first event was 501 Singles where she advanced through the field to face her dear friend, Bob's widow, Candra Archbold, in the Finals. Sandy won to claim her third Singles title of the year and her 152nd of her career.
Fellow K-Girl Kay Hoover moved into the state from Ohio recently and Sandy teamed up with her in Doubles Cricket. They have had success in the past at some of the biggest tournaments in the country and they earned the title in this event as well.
She played Mixed Triples with her longtime friends Jeff Turner and John Liggett and made a run to the Finals but came up just short to finish 2nd. This was only her second tournament of the year but she has won 8 of 9 events she has entered. She hopes things will return to normal soon and looks forward to more darts in the future.
Sandy has the best sponsors anyone could ask for and their high quality products are the best in the business. Thanks to Winmau, L-Style Global,Magic wear and Dutchman Darts who continue to support her as she chases her dart dreams.
Spring is usually a busy season for darts in our area but she will take what she can get. She has some upcoming events scheduled soon and looks forward to more as things start to come back.
