Friday she won the Target/USSDA Cricket National Championship topping Paula Murphy in the Finals. These two girls have played dozens of times through the years and with the highest of stakes involved. This was the fifth time they have met in a National Championship Final with Paula leading the series 3-2. But this day belonged to Sandy who threw very well to earn the title, her 9th National Championship of her career.
She entered the 501 Pro-Shoot on Friday night which made for a long day. She played well at times but ran out of gas and lost to Paula in the Semi-Finals. She had not set up with partners since she wasn't going to play on Sunday but recruited Savannah's Joe Efter who graciously played with her in Saturday's Cricket Mixed Doubles. They have played several times before and despite both of them not throwing a lot lately, they made an inspired run to the Finals where they lost to Paula and Danny Baggish. She found a Ladies 501 Doubles partner in Florida's Cris Cwalinski and they reached the Top 16 to cap off another long, 10 hour day while playing just 2 events. After a great seafood dinner Saturday she headed home on Sunday morning.
Although Sandy doesn't travel as much or have the endurance she once did, she still is a tough competitor and loves the game. As the song goes, she's not as good as she once was, but it good once as she ever was. She is so happy so have great sponsors give her such amazing support.
