In 2008 Sandy first qualified to represent America in the Winmau World Masters in England, ever since then she circles the dates for this event on her calendar in hopes of again making the field. This year was the 45th edition and was the 8th time Sandy has qualified for the prestigious tournament.
Usually we plan some time for sightseeing but this year we didn't have that luxury, despite the exhausting travel over to London then up to Bridlington, she started the Lakeside World Pro on Wednesday on top of her game. Her first round match was a no-show and in the second round she topped Kaisu Rekinen of Finland 3-0. Next she beat England's Evonne Taylor 3-0 and then won 3-0 over Sweden's Deana Rosenblom to reach her Group Finals. There she lost her first leg of the event but prevailed over England's Donna Gleed 3-1. On to the Semi Finals where she won a tough match against Poland's Malgorzata Markowska 3-2 to reach the Bracket Finals. There she played another talented Polish player, Karolina Podgorska and won the first leg and had other chances but failed to convert and lost 3-1, one step from her goal.
She was back on Thursday for the Winmau World Masters and had a first round BYE, she beat England's Claire Irons 4-1 which included a beautiful 12 dart game. Next up she topped England's Mandy Smith 4-0 to move into the Group Semi-Finals where she just couldn't get it going as neither player were playing their best and Sandy's 2018 England trip came to an end losing to Sweden's Susianne Hagvall 4-1.
This year there was a large American team with 18 players competing in the Masters, the Qualifier and the World Disability Darts Masters. While it was a hectic week of travel and darts it was nice to hang out with the American team and see some of our friends from other countries. Sandy's sponsors are instrumental to her success.
