The Celebrate the New Year in Charlotte has long been her first tournament to start the season, knock off some holiday rust start to get into tournament shape. Mother Nature had different plans and snowed us in with a winter storm. We didn't know it then but this would be the first of several regular events that she couldn't attend in 2017. Two tournaments were cancelled, one moves their normal date and other events were on conflicting weekends for work or vacation.
Later in the month it was off to Las Vegas where Sandy successfully defended her ADO Cricket National Championship topping fellow K-Girl Marlise Kiel in the Finals. The Las Vegas Open is always the toughest room it American darts and she played well and earned one Title over the weekend. February and March brought successful tournaments in Huntsville, AL and Augusta, GA and a win at the ADO Area 5-6 National Masters Qualifier. It also brought the sad, sad news that Stacey Bromberg, the legendary American player and friend had passed away. It would be impossible to understand the entire impact Stacy had on the game of darts in America and beyond.
April and May saw Sandy stay pretty close to home playing regular tournaments in Asheville, NC, Charlotte, NC and Inman, SC, turning in some nice results. She was also in Cleveland, OH for the ADO Masters Nationals and Cleveland Extravaganza where she had a good tournament and earned a trip to England for the Winmau World Masters.
In June she visited the Cherry Bomb tournament in Ft. Lauderdale, FL for the first time and had a great event. She also signed a new 3 year deal with Winmau who makes her signature "Storm' darts. In July she won the ADO 5-6 National America's Cup Qualifier for Denver, CO and injured her knee which would complicate the rest of the season. August is vacation time but in September she went to Bridlington, England for her biggest trip of the year. She competed in the Winmau World Masters, representing America for the 7th time in this event. She also played in the British Open, British Classic and BDO Lakeside Qualifier for a full load of darts over a week against the toughest field in women's darts. She played well throughout the weekend and had a great time as always. Representing your country is an honor which never gets old.
In October she was in Denver, CO for the ADO's America's Cup National Playoff and Colorado Open which is always a great tournament. Sandy was able to qualify for the America's Cup Team playing in Trinidad in 2018, it's will be her third straight America's Cup team. She also found some success in the Colorado Open which has always been hard to come by in the thin air of the Rocky Mountains. She ended the month in Myrtle Beach, SC and won the first ever Winmau 501 National Championship which was organized and managed by the United States Sports Dart Alliance. She also had some great results there at the Ghost on the Coast including her last Singles Title and 14th on the season. She finished the year in Chattanooga, TN with mixed results and was in need of some rest and knee rehabilitation at the end of a long season.
Weather permitting, Sandy will be attending the Celebrate the New Year tournament in Charlotte, NC and even playing with the same partners she had to cancel on last time. January will also see her in Las Vegas competing in the ADO National Cricket and 501 Championships. Sandy has amazing sponsors in Winmau, L-Style Global, Dutchman Darts and Flying Bull Darts and is fortunate to have them in her corner and she chases her dart dreams in 2018 and beyond.
